Still trying to get to grips with sailing as a father, today gave some more challenges.

Headed of at a reasonable hour (1 hour later than desired, but when you have a baby that is a good result!).

Then tried to avoid roadworks on way to beach (can add 15+ mins to a 30 mins journey which may not seem like much to those that drive a long way, but we are payed a lot less because of where we live so feel we should be able to get to the beach in less that 1.5 hours which is what it finally took!)

Missed all the normal snack stops so grabbed a KFC (indegestion city to those who have a good digestive system)

Arrived at beach to see a very gusty wind, went to the loo twice before deciding what to rig (long time since). Rigged the 6M and just as I finished, the wind died to nothing (and I mean nothing)

Some firends arrived and I sat on the grass and complaned about wind, weather, middle age, kids, responsabilities, life, jobs, money ....sob, sob....

Wind then started to pick up again, so set out to see what happened......well I got pitched left and right....My intermediatte skills had left for better company and I could barely do a deep water beach start. Got hauled over the front time and time again. Straps were just something to trip over and the harness was just something to watch as it flew by.....

Got really p1$$3d off, but then calmed down and put some thought in. Sail was on the wrong mast with lots of extension so very 'bendy'. Added some more downhaul (until the top of the sail flapped in the wind and sounded like a crisp packet) popped a bit more outhaul on and then tried again, things got better so I raised the boom.

The only complaint left was massive spinout (3 times I went about 50M+ sideways). Although there are lots of reasons for this (including bad technique!) I decided I was using the wrong fin (lent a pal my kit 2 weeks ago and did not check I had right kit before I set off today so was using a very cheap fin much shorter that I had used on this board before)

So there we go...seemed like a bad day at times, but was a bloody good sail never-the-less. 24hours later I ache like hell, but want to get back out as soon as possible....

Lets hope next weekend gives me/us a chance.

4 Stars for effort and bullheadedness!!!!
